Prom Season at Schultz Floral: A Look Back at 16+ Proms Across Northwest Indiana

Over five weekends, our team designed florals for 16+ proms across Valparaiso and Northwest Indiana, creating custom corsages, boutonnieres, bouquets, and wearable flowers for hundreds of students celebrating one of high school’s biggest milestones.

From elevated designer’s choice florals to classic coordinating pieces, every order was created by hand, carefully processed, and fulfilled in the order received during one of the busiest floral seasons of the year.

And while prom flowers may look effortless when they leave the shop, there’s an incredible amount of design work, logistics, preparation, and care behind every single piece.

At Schultz Floral, prom flowers are not mass-produced products sitting on a shelf waiting to be picked up.

Every corsage, boutonniere, bouquet, and floral accessory is designed specifically for each order using fresh floral product selected for the season and availability. Many customers choose our signature designer’s choice style, trusting our team to create something elevated, cohesive, and one-of-a-kind.

Because of the volume of prom orders we receive each spring, all prom florals are:

• Pre-order items only

• Fulfilled in the order received

• Designed with seasonal product availability in mind

This process allows us to maintain quality while serving multiple schools and weekends during one of the busiest times on the floral calendar — often overlapping with Mother’s Day production and holiday floral demand.

One of the most important things we communicate during prom season is this:

Fresh flowers are natural products.

That means no two blooms — or colors — are ever exactly the same. While we always do our best to coordinate with dresses, suits, inspiration photos, and requested color palettes, fresh florals cannot guarantee an exact color match. Shades naturally vary based on:

• Seasonal availability

• Flower variety

• Growing conditions

• Supply fluctuations

• Holiday market demand

Part of what makes fresh floral design so beautiful is that every piece is unique. We work within the natural character of the flowers to create designs that feel cohesive, elevated, and intentional.

With the volume of prom orders we manage each season, having a clear process helps protect both our customers and our team while ensuring orders are fulfilled accurately and efficiently.

Each prom order includes:

• A written order form

• Pickup timing information

• Access to our published pickup terms and conditions via QR code

For in-store orders, customers initial acknowledgment of the terms. For phone orders, our staff reviews the policies verbally during the ordering process. At pickup, every customer:

• Receives care instructions for fresh flowers

• Signs confirming the order is acceptable and satisfactory at the time of pickup

We also walk customers through proper handling instructions, including:

• Avoiding hot vehicles

• Refrigeration recommendations

• Water care for bouquets

• Handling delicate floral pieces

Once flowers leave the shop, we are no longer responsible for damage caused by heat, improper storage, transportation, or wear. These policies allow us to continue offering high-quality custom prom florals while working with delicate, perishable products during an extremely high-volume season.

Like any busy holiday or event season, prom comes with long hours, fast-paced production days, and a tremendous amount of teamwork behind the scenes. Our designers, sales staff, drivers, and support team worked tirelessly across five consecutive weekends to help make these celebrations feel special for local students and families throughout Valparaiso and Northwest Indiana. We’re incredibly grateful for the trust our community places in us year after year.
